Following the automated upgrade path from Precise to Trusty, libvirtd
failed to load libvirt_driver_storage.so (and consequently
libvirt_driver_qemu.so). In our case, this was fixed by installing
librbd-dev (presumably due to librbd1 dependency).
Running "/etc/init.d/libvirt-
lines.
In the end, I've been reading that sftp is the future, so vsftpd might be
obsolete anyway - however for those of us running into vsftpd issues, I don't
see the harm in updating the default package to something that works.

It's not a problem, however removing ntpdate will still remove
ubuntu-minimal...which is not recommended. Really, I don't see why these are
so tied together. I understnad ntpdate relying on ubuntu-minimal, but the
reverse should not be true.

You're probably better off removing the Debian cron job and modifying
the php.ini yourself to your prefered settings (even if you revert them
back to the original PHP settings).
Unfortunately, it doesn't seam like anyone at Ubuntu is interested in
changing this away from the Debian modifications,
I tested with a VPS, if you have an MTA installed prior to MySQL install
(other than Postfix), Postfix is not installed, which is a good thing!
In this case I was setting up a dedicated MySQL box so really didn't
want/need an MTA on there. We already have load balanced Exim servers
for mail!
