So, I went ahead and made a different version of the patch which sends
asyncore's logging output to syslog, instead of stderr. This keep's
apt-get's output clean.
I think this is the patch I'd prefer. However, I should probably also
bark up the tree of asyncore.py and ask why they are calling 'p
(oops, the previous patch had some garbage at the top. re-attaching the
patch here).

Actually, this whole problem has been fixed in Debian unstable about 1
year ago.
mysql-workbench (6.2.3+dfsg-7) unstable; urgency=low
* Demoted "virtual-mysql-client" to Recommends; added "mysql-client"
as first alternative: "mysql-client | virtual-mysql-client".

mysql-client up to utopic depends on version 5.5. Vivid and beyond
already depend on 5.6 and thus be only affected if mariadb is installed
instead of mysql. This ticket can either be fixed by relaxing the
dependencies in mysql-workbench or having mariadb and other packages
provide mysql-client.
Sorry ... but I don't know what distribution and packages you are
using, but Ubuntu does not include a '/usr/bin/yum' ... so your
Bugreport maybe wrong in this UBUNTU bugtracker.
