This also affects me, and I don't see any easy workaround. Trusty used
upstream 2.3.2, but turned off "enable-systemd"; Utopic turns it on, and
that makes openvpn execute systemd-ask-password, but with stdin set to
/dev/null, whcih makes it pretty hard to interact with.

I have also encountered the two issues Michael mentions and two others
in the upstart script /etc/init/squid3 that are - from my perspective -
essential to get SMP Squid3 working. They are:

On Trusty, the stop of lxc-net fails if the iptables rules are not
present.
I added “exec >> /tmp/lxc-net.log 2>&1” at the beginning of pre-start
and post-stop and get:
iptables: Bad rule (does a matching rule exist in that chain?).

So it's freeipa-server apache config that causes it, not mod_nss. Turns
out it's mod_wsgi, this is enough to reproduce the failure:
