I have found a workaround to this bug. In other words, suspend now works
in MaxBookPro 11,1 if you do:
1. Push e.g. control+alt+fn+F1 to go to a tty.
2. Close the laptop lid.
After about 3 seconds, the laptop sleeps. Hurray!

Systemd (or perhaps something else too), does that as well. You can
install systemd-sysv, purge ifupdown and upstart, and lo will be up.
