Tested on a precise lxc container I have:
it seems we could try with -L (or even better --console-log) and fall
back to -c (or --console) if that fails with exit code 1 (we could even
check the output for "invalid option".

Looking at the logs from Adam that Nate forwarded to me, I can see the
database is being terminated and restarted over and over and over, every
few seconds. Looking at logs around it, looks like at least rsyslogd is
also being re-freshed on the same cadence.

@John, it's definitely a bad idea to have transactions in a capped
collection for that sort of reason, but as far as I can see the _txns_
collection, the one holding the transactions themselves, is not capped.
Having missing logs for a transaction would not cause this issue.

could you please show the results of 'ps -ef | grep qemu' while the vm
is running?
To be clear, are you saying that, on the same host, you are able to
install a 14.04 Ubuntu guest, but installing a 14.10 Ubuntu guests
fails?

In a dual socket athlon 8 core server we encouyntered performance
problems that were due to assymetrical IRQ distribution between the two
8-core CPUs. After downgrade to package
irqbalance_0.56-1ubuntu4_amd64.deb, the IRQs were evenly distributed and
performance was recovered.
