I solved my problem by setting "chmod 444" on the certificate and key
files, after which "apt-get -f install" worked perfectly. I had
previously set "chmod 400".
I assume this problem was just waiting for slapd to be restarted before
biting me, and it just happened to be this update that triggered

The reason why the API path was hardcoded is because maas-enlist was
intended to be used against a MAAS server deployed from the Debian
