I can get `passwd` to work if I change one line in common-password

I can't reproduce that. Running "sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 stop" will
successfully shutdown tomcat6 here. Double-check that you really reload
the page and you don't hit Firefox cache. If the bug is still there,
please run:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start
$ ps -ef | grep tomcat6
$ sudo /etc/init.d/
/usr/share/tomcat6 is not writeable by webapps for security reasons, I
don't see why we should remove one of our security layers around tomcat
just to please one specific (and not packaged in Ubuntu) webapp.
I'd suggest that OpProject should create its directory elsewhere, in a
pre-created, tomcat

Not sure how I did it, but I succeeded in removing the password for
root. I can now connect to the database. But if I try to change the root
password of mysql using "sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.1", I get
