Found the apparmour errors in syslog, related to virt-aa helper.
I added /sys/devices/** r, to usr.lib.virt-aa-helper and got a bit further.

Rebooting the PC fixed that problem so I guess something hadn't been reloaded.
I've also added /dev/** rwk, to the apparmour profile. Taking it away doesn't
stop it from working again, although I've not tried rebooting the host yet.
It still doesn't quite work however, as now (on the guest) I see

It's qcow2 and increasing size is not what the problem is. The problem
is, if the forked image is smaller than the base image. In that case,
qemu-img should not create the image in first place.

ok, i noticed in the system monitor that a process kept trying to run
'stop mysql', but mysql wasn't running (probably stopped earlier in the
dpkg script). If you're into this situation, run 'sudo start mysql' and
dpkg will continue normally.

I think it's OK the way it is. clamd takes a lot longer to restart in
0.96 than it did in 0.95, so we changed the default to false (so the
clamd would restart every 6 hours and not hourly). Part of what was
bugged in the current packages was we didn't carry that through
correctly.
