I just reproduced this exact issue in Jaunty (dovecot
1:1.1.11-0ubuntu2). That is; I set my clock to run ahead, restarted my
network which triggered a ntpdate. Hence my clock was set back to the
correct time, leading to dovecot shutting itself down.

If the wireless interface is configured as 'system-wide' in
NetworkManager the host interface will be up without a log-in and
openvpn will establish the tunnel as soon as the route appears.
If NetworkManager establishes the wireless connection after GDM log-in
the openvpn connection establishes it

The smbpasswd-syslog.patch you submitted to Samba [1] as a fix to Debian bug
434372 never made it to a Samba release. Since this sudo segfault issue seems
to only affect our build (and only since Intrepid) I was wondering if the patch
was not introducing an issue when run against the 3.2

the system clock backwards causes dovecot-imapd to abort itself. In
Ubuntu's standard /etc/network/if-up.d is an "ntpdate" script which runs
ntpdate if static interface
I can confirm this works as expected with the updated dhcpd3-common and
-client packages from Jonathan's PPA - the DHCP lease now has the 'ntp-
servers' option [1], consequently NTP has picked it up [2].
What else do we need to move this to the next step?
