I seem to repeatedly trigger this bug, just in my house (laptop w/
wifi/ethernet, on Ubuntu 8.10, samba package 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4). It
happens if the interface itself is lost, and it -may- also happen if the

I've only just noticed this bug report. For the last couple of Ubuntu
releases I've been patching and re-compiling the openldap (previously
openldap2.3) packages in my PPA as I use the smbk5pwd overlay.
If you'd like to make use of my work, add the following to apt's
sources.list for Intrepid:

The _netdev option tells the system (if it doesn't already knows it from the
fstype) that the filesystem should be considered mounted on network (and
therefore be unmounted in umountnfs.sh rather than umountfs).

I think I've deduced what is happening here. The combination of the
dhcp-host line and the /etc/hosts entry generates the equivalent of
dhcp-host=name,192.168.X.X
When you run Ubuntu, the DHCP requests send the name, so dnsmasq find
and uses this line, and all is good.
