[Ubuntu-manual] Author's updates

2013-09-02 Thread Jim Connett
Good day, Ubuntu Authors! Just a couple of quick remembers... - we're less than 20 days from the next milestone where all authoring for 13.10 will be complete. In the next couple of weeks, please be sure to review and modify your assigned sections. When you've completed your section, please conta

Re: [Ubuntu-manual] error after command 'make'

2013-09-03 Thread Jim Connett
Thanks, Hannie for pointing out that error and to Kevin for correcting it. I saw the error before I committed 77 yesterday (I think the error was in 76). The 'make' worked and the manual built, but 'make' did note the error, and I forgot to go back to locate the problem. I think this error also al

[Ubuntu-manual] One week and counting!

2013-09-11 Thread Jim Connett
Hey authors! This is your one week countdown message! We're targeting Thursday, September 19th, as the due date for authors to be done with editing the current manual to bring it up-to-date for 13.10. If you've not done so already, please take care of your section as soon as possible! Looks like a

[Ubuntu-manual] A reminder about margin notes, and a question about HUD

2013-09-15 Thread Jim Connett
Authors, Hope everything is going well this weekend! As we enter into our final week of authoring, I've got one reminder and one question: *The Reminder* As I've been doing edits to my sections, I've happened onto other sections of the manual and I still am observing a high number of margin notes

Re: [Ubuntu-manual] differences Saucy / previous versions

I like this idea. Create a new chapter (I'd call it Chapter 0, but that's just the programmer in me)...call it "What's new in {version}". This new chapter would increase the value of the UMP for those who are familiar with the previous version and just want to see what's changed. I wonder if findi

Re: [Ubuntu-manual] Pricing and distribution question

2013-11-10 Thread Jim Connett
I don't think we're going to see a surge of downloaders because we widened our distribution net and raised the price. Not saying it's a bad idea to broaden our exposure, but Ubuntu IS a free operating system and if I'm looking for a manual that's getting close to $10, then I'm hitting amazon.com an

Re: [Ubuntu-manual] Merge with the Ubuntu Docs team?

2014-07-14 Thread Jim Connett
Hello everyone (again!). Even though I'm taking an extended leave from my involvement with the UMP, I've continued to follow this list. I wanted to throw in my 2 cents to these questions in the hopes of providing another datapoint in this important decision. I think the UMP and the docs team serv
