Thanks for the help. The default locations were indeed provided in
square brackets but I didn't realize that they were the ones I was
looking for. Anyways, I installed TexLive successfully as well as the
required packages. But when I compiled the file using 'make', I get

When you hit "L", it should prompt you for each directory (and have the
default in the brackets). If it doesn't have the defaults there, then
here are what you'll select (based on my setup right now)
> create symlinks in standard directories: [X]
> binaries to: /usr/local

attention and forgot to select the symlinks option. I uninstalled
texlive and restarted the process. After running install-tl, I entered O
and then L. Upon entering O, I am asked for 'New value for Binary
directory', 'New value fo
When you ran the installation, did you select the option to create the
symlink?
