It's possible to create a nice design that can accommodate printer margins.
Full-bleed is always luxurious looking, of course, but printer limitations
can be incorporated into a design, especially if we are requiring readers
who want hardcopy to print their own manuals.

I have been operating with a 6.35mm (1/4") margin for page design with no
problems. The quick google for Canon laser printers yeilds 5mm margin.
