Thank you, Narendra, for both the welcome and the advice about the dongle. The school is working with Reliance and they actually had a .deb installation file, but it broke during installation. The latest was that I might have been trying the wrong hardware. So, that's where it stands. I posted

Hi David Welcome to India and the Ubuntu India list. Would be able to share which dongle are you trying to use or are you looking for general advice. Would advice you to buy after you make sure it will work with your version of Ubuntu. I hear some of them dont support linux or need work arounds. O
