I've not been following this project particularly closely, but what does
Empathy give users that couldn't be achieved by adding Telepathy support
to Pidgin? Further to what Onkar mentioned, I'd add:

Currently Hardy ships Exaile 0.2.11 (in universe) which has a blocker
bug which prevents Exaile from displaying the playlist.
