The kernel developers attitude on this bugs me. A brief summary;
1) The device works perfectly in Windows and OSX, but not in Linux
2) The reason seems to be very simple. The device return 'garbage' data
on the first read, and the real data on subsequent reads. Linux uses the
first read. Windows

Just adding my 2c, I also consider this a bug. Clear browsing history
ought to clear all of the user's browsing history, not just 'most of
it'. Obscure workarounds are not good enough. Please fix this.

I'm not sure how different packages identify themselves as being a media
player; perhaps this bug should be filed against the VLC package for not
registering itself somwhere?

I notice in the VLC 'wizzard' it says it's not really suited to
transcoding ,more just for capturing network streams. I've been using
different tools to encode ogg video so not really bothered any more by
vlc's ability or lack thereof..

Just to clarify; My mpx player is still working 'acceptably' in Hardy,
Intrepid and the Jaunty beta. That is to say it appears on the desktop
and opens automatically
When I checked this morning the problem had mysteriously resolved itself
(probably as a result of a recent dist-upgrade) ..
For the sake of comparison I'll include library versions of the
'working' evince. And the first thing that caught my attention is that
libpoppler.so.4 is now libpoppler.so.5.

OK, nathan's suggestion was fairly easy. But could somebody PLEASE
PLEASE write something (A dialog, under removable drives and media where
it used to be, preferably) that lets ordinary users change the default
media player without having to manually edit mime types and .desktop

I have the same problem. I already have full disk encryption, I want to
enter just one password and then I want my laptop to boot straight to
the desktop and connect to WiFi. I do NOT want to have to enter any
other passwords. Otherwise I will just return to using unencrypted

as it did in any other OS so any issues were simply due to very poor
design of the mp3 player. It died a short while later so I am unable

USB issues
Is this fixed? Less than a month ago I installed 10.04 on a compaq
laptop, printing to a network laser printer (can't recall the model).
