My X server also crashes if compiz is running and I try to view incoming
messages. But I'm wondering that nobody is mentioning "compiz", "beryl"
or "composite" here. Does this problem also occur on systems without
such visual effects? That would be new to me.

fonts are using much more space in y-direction as they should normally

I can confirm this empty "blue screen" during an amd64 installation of
Debian 4.0 with RAID 5. I already thought the installer hangs, but after

used XEvIE in my programs. Does someone know if there will be a
replacement for XEvIE?
BTW the package libxevie1 providing /usr/lib/libXevie.so.1.0.0 still

In Jaunty there are the packages "dbus-java-bin" and libdbus-java. I
haven't tested them, because I'm not working dbus anymore. But I suppose
they are OK and this issue can be closed, since there is no one going to

Yes, the segmentation fault might be caused by the broken Record
extension of the X server. I still cannot believe how the developers of
xorg could break such an important extension which is used by dozens of
applications. On the other hand I'm very disappointed to see this broken
X server version

This xnee version does not compile anymore on Ubuntu lucid.

/usr/include/gnome-1.0/gnome.h where it was located under hardy (package

Trinity. Under gnome inkscape runs fine.
I discovered that Trinity sets LD_PRELOAD to its own gtk2 library
(/opt/trinity/lib/kgtk/libkgtk2.so). When I unset this environment
variable I can use inkscape even under Trinity.
I cannot believe that only 2 persons are affected by this bug. How do
all the others install 32 bit applications such as adobe reader or other
applications that depend on the 32 bit versions of libsdl1.2 or the
general ia32-libs? If there is anybody out there with a 64 bit

I discovered the source of the problem via "apt-cache policy libogg0".
Actually the libogg0 package came from another repository (trinity
desktop environment). After removing the repository from sources.list
and downgrading to the Ubuntu version of package libogg0 I could finally
install ia32-libs

I was in a similar situation 1 year ago. Suddenly my mount script for
my crypted devices did not work anymore, because mount.crypt wanted to
have a cipher.
Finally I solved the problem by writing a wrapper script for mount.crypt
(see attachment) providing the old functionality.
