I have had this problem as well. Synaptic hangs after installing
packages in KDE 4.1 saying ldconfig deferred processing now taking
place, but I do not have this problem in GNOME.

After installing the new version KDE 4, 4.1, onto my computer, I have
encountered several errors. First, on my IBM Thinkcentre S50 8183CVU,
the process knotify4 takes up to 49 to 50% of my CPU power, on a 2.8 GH
