I am having the same problem, but I think it is not a pidgin issue. I had the
same problem when I tried using Gajim.
Can someone confirm if the problem is just because of problems in network
connectivity or a bug?
I am running Pidgin 2.5.2 on Ubuntu Intrepid. Please let me know if you need

Also since i did not know what the problem was i removed gajim and
reinstalled the same by compiling the source code.
I'm not able to reproduce the bug any more.
The initial rise in CPU load still exists but it is otherwise working
