On a clean install of Ubuntu-Desktop 8.04.1 I followed the instructions
in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VMware/Server to install vmware-
server-1.06-91891.tar.gz. Vmware-server installs correctly and mounts
iso/starts virtual machine without a problem.

After a lot of testing, I still haven't found what is causing the
problem. The relevant host specs are:
Acer Aspire 2012wlmi
Intel Pentium M 1.5 GHz
Intel 855GME
I have resolved the issue by installing a command-line only
