Both Update Manager and Add/Remove... crash for me. when using
Add/Remove... this happens when I attempt to install a program. Update
Manager crashed when I click on the 'Check' command button.

I have sound in all other apps and 'play system sounds' is enabled with
the 'log out' sound selected. Since i am the only user, i have told
Ubuntu to log me in automatically, even when the original/default login
method was used, there was still no login sound.
