All patches installed.
I'm also running compiz, but without it's the same thing.
This issue really drives me crazy since I had a similar problem with
Ubuntu 8.10. I think that issue was fix
I can confirm Dmitry's comment. no changes on the artifact-issues.

Initially I had the same issue. After playing with Thorsten's script I
think I'm one step further.
One remark to the script, I changed the logging to grab the whole output of
synce-sync-engine:
synce-sync-engine > synce-sync-engine.log 2>&1 &
However I do get the same error in /var/log/messages,
nobody else has a similar issue or can help us?
something new, after I'd to hard reset my device, I could synchronize it the
following way (but unfortunately only once!)
note: I almost kept all previously created settings/files on my computer.
