Public bug reported:
According to a recent thread on ubuntuforums.org
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=403347&highlight=sound+events)
most people turn sound events off. They are a bit of an annoyance for
many and of little benefit to most. Unless there is some sort of
accessibility issue

I don't think "because the others do it" is a good argument, I realised
that this matter is rather trivial and that most people, whoever they
are, probably don't feel as strongly about this as I do. Turning sounds
off is a trivial task.
I still think sound events really have no function.

I have this issue not only with a USB mass storage device but also with
an Artec T14 DVB stick. I'm using the newest kernel from feisty repos.
My issue is different from the description. My devices aren't recognized
at all.

I have a similar problem with blueman. After suspend or hibernate, blueman
applet stops working properly. Restarting bluetooth doesn't help and after I
turn my notebook's bluetooth device switch off and on, blueman-applet claims do
be running but there's no visible windows or bt icon on tray.

Futhermore, it only affects my desktop pc that was upgraded from Hardy
to Ibex. My laptop which has a clean install of Ibex (+ all the latest
updates) is working as expected - eg the "jump to" is still working.
So it seems to be related to upgrading from Hardy to Ibex.
Could you suggest other mea
I disabled SCIM for my current user and that solved the problem. Is this
expected behaviour or is this still a bug?
Thanks

I second the need to rethink message notification, it is too
unintrusive.
My suggestion would be to:

chat)
2. show blinking systray icon when you're busy or away (eg. you're doing

I've actually stopped using the weather applet cause the date/time
applet can show weather too and don't have this problem.
What I originally did was to change the "temperature unit" in the
preferences and then changed it back to default. It worked fine with
setting a specific unit (K, C, F) but w
I have problems with this too. I use Xinerama and both screens show only

Problem exits in Ubuntu Dapper. I can provide more information, if you

May this bug cause my raid1 swap partition not to be mounted correctly?
I will try to make a more informative report later, not at home right

In my case it had something to do with .local folder in my home. After
renaming that folder everything works again. I haven't had time to
figure out what exactly in that folder is causing that, but I hope it
gives you a glue.

That workaround doesn't work for me. I can hear the sound again but the
