Hi. I actually don't use K/Ubuntu these days. I don't mind downloading a
LiveCD and testing that for you, but I won't be able to do anything with
packages.

Problem might be resolved in 20070417 daily build. When I just hit
return at the LiveCD menu, the same problem might have occurred, but
when I selected Safe Mode, then switched back to option 1, it worked.
Repeated, and got same results.

Went back and tried this with 6.10 and 6.06 LiveCDs, and found that the
problem does not occur. It appears specific to this release.

This problem still occurs in Herd 5. Just verified it in normal graphics
mode and safe graphics mode.

When I do what you say, the boot process appears to enter a loop where I see
a block of 3 "SQUASHFS" errors, followed by several paragraphs of errors
accessing "device sr0." I am not sure ho
