I see this exact bug in Intrepid 9.04. It happens every time on startup.

Another interesting thing to note. I just tried running kompare inside
of the kde desktop instead of gnome, and it didn't crash.

I saw this bug in 8.10 as well. After switching from one user to another
my sound went completely haywire, blaring a beeping noise incessantly,
so I killed all instances of pulseaudio. A little bit later, I noticed
my machine slow to a crawl and that all 2 GB of RAM were in use. Top

I am seeing this problem on 8.10 with the NVIDIA accelerated graphics
driver version 177. Openoffice is especially sluggish, and when I view
CPU usage in top, Xorg is reported to be the culprit.

I downloaded and used Shutter to take a picture of the tomboy icon that
is not transparent. Interestingly enough, the shutter tray icon is also
not transparent on my 64-bit machine, and it appears to be written in
Perl.
