I am currently using 2.6.24-19 64 bit, but my wireless worked out of the
box with the installation CD, the one from 32 bit, and with whatever
kernel comes with the OpenSuse installer. Your problem may be a
different one, but here, it is quite clearly not about the kernel, but
about the acpi scripts

If I kill the process of upowerd, then upowerd restarts with accurate
information in "Energy when full" and the battery of the indicator
applet jumps back to where it should be. So this should really be a bug

In unity, triggering the screen redraw by hitting the key (the
one with the windows symbol on it) works for me. If you don't just tap
the key, but hold it down for > 0.5 seconds, the black "dash" overlay
doesn't pop up. Easier than clicking around with the mouse. Still
annoying.
