the latest ubuntu (with the Heron image) finally recognises the HP1020
(thank you team ubuntu!). sometimes the printer will not print a
document, just sits there. then I have to go into windows (dual boot
system), then print any sort of document from XP on the HP (always work
I could not get this printer going with ubuntu UNTIL i updated to the latest
ubuntu ('heron'). Now works fine.
Still have problems with my latest canon printer. Best to stick to epson
with linux.

I followed the advice here and got the HP 1020 to work with Ubuntu UNTIL
there was an error (eg out of paper), then everything froze.
I even had the printer go to Abort if there was an error by applying this in
the printer setup, but this did not seem to help. The only way

same thing (greyed out install updates during installation ) happened to me
during install, both with wifi and with ethernet.
Important as I cannot connect now to wifi ( sees transmitters but will not
connect ) because I hoped during ethernet install it would correct and replace
any bad drivers.

HP Laster jet now seems to work fine with ubuntu 10.
