The same experience happening to me, with
Dell PowerEdge SC1435 with SAS5iR
Raid Controller.

Thanks for the information.
It seems that we have to create our kernel ourself.
As in 2.6.20, there is no problem with RAID1.

I had similar problem when I used the Leadtek nVidia GT220 graphic card
on my desktop with the nVidia proprietary driver available from the
Ubuntu repository.
The problem disappeared after I:
- physically removed the Leadtek nVidia GT220 from my desktop
- uninstalled the nVidia proprietary driver
