I agree that vim is doing what it's supposed to do. But the result is a
problem that's difficult to detect and even harder to track down. It's
a consequence of the way we use sudo, which is a great idea, but not
standard, and a lot of standard bugless things fail to accommodate it,

I was about to set this to fix-released, but I figured out what Hervé
was talking about, and I can confirm it. You make a new user. His
default username is new_user, and I guess his group is created/set
before you do anything else, because if the first thing you do is change

determined that it was the fault of a corrupt mp3 file incorrectly
reporting its length. You can use mp3info to try to identify the
offending file(s).

I reported this against ncurses and not eterm because apparently
ncurses-base provides the terminfo files, which is where I found the
fix. I have no idea where it came from, but on my dapper box I have a
/etc/terminfo/E/Eterm file, and if I put this file on my edgy box, the
problem goes away. Apt

source package produces the good terminfo file, which should probably
replace the one from ncurses-base.

I think the suspend-to-ram problem is a separate bug (and there is a
separate bug filed). I've had this problem on three machines which were
never suspended and only one of which was a laptop. As far as I can
tell, it just fails occasionally to do an imap folder listing, and when

This is the designed-in behavior, not a bug, so I'm setting importance
to wishlist. Not rejecting it because I don't know a better way to
track the response of users to this change than to track reported bugs.
It works in gtk apps too, presumably, because Gnome has supported this
feature since lon

I can also confirm this on amd64. It seems to hang/crash like this any
time it tries to show a dialog like file, print, etc.
