Today I upgraded to 8.10 and suddenly these packages were reinstalled.

I used the update manager.. I simply pressed the button that 8.10 was
available and than followed the regular upgrade process.

Not really a firefox issue (but could not find another suitable package

I used to had the same problem however I upgraded to 7.10 (tribe 5 via a
dist-upgrade) and re-ran the configure of X. Also I switched to xubuntu,
since then the proper resolution is available ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and usable.
However I do not know if this is due to the upgrade to 7.10 or my switch
to
I got the same issue. There are no issues during and after upgrading,
however when launching this item from control center, the error occurs.

I changed the display format of the date time applet to unixtime format.
Directly after this change, the gnome-panel crashes and can not be
started again (well it can be done, however a crash is the direct result
of the restart).

Exact the same issue here with an iiyama E1900ws. 915resolution and
editting xorg.conf solves the problem, allthough it is rather anoying.

Binary package hint: synaptic
If I remove one or more packages from synaptic, synaptic removes the
packages and will notify me that the packages were removed. When I press
the close button of this information window, synaptic itself crashes.

I can confirm this bug too (sadly enough). upgrade was done via gksudo
"update-manager -d"
