Same problem - reads cds and dvds fine, but when trying to record, it
will not recognize disc in cd/dvd drive. Worked fine in Gutsy, but this
problem started after upgrading to Hardy. Doesn't matter whether I use
Nautilus, Rhythmbox, Brasero, etc.

Same problem, I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy 8.04. Originally I didn't
have the login problem but I did have a lot of trouble getting the
initial upgrade to work with my video card (NVIDIA Quadro 4 280NVS).
After I changed the video driver from nvidia-glx to nvidia-legacy, my
video worked, but the

Before new release upgrade, every time I upgraded any file, it would
return an error from slpd. I was hoping this problem would resolve
itself with the system upgrade. But, no. System upgrade (to 13.04)
returned:
