Thanks for your reply. When I do this command in root mode, here's the
output:

Alas, no change for me. Starts fine from root-enabled terminal, errors out
from automatically installed menu icon.

Update: Success! Synaptic Package Manager doesn't actually completely
uninstall the program. Only after I uninstalled, then manually removed the
.miro file, did reinstalling make a positive difference. Now all is cool. In
case anyone else is crashing into the same wall...
