The kern.log has this line:

I can replicate this bug consistently on a website that uses javascript
code from jQuery, Twitter, and Facebook. I can give the link to the
website if desired (it is a website I developed) or the direct link to
the simple javascript file so please let me know if that is desired. It

Please disregard comment #59 because the issue was an error in the
javascript that was causing a recursive function to be called via
javascript improperly. Once this was fixed the flashing hover icon no
longer happens.

The "unable to save" message is due to file permissions, and the fact
that nvidia-settings is run as the current user.
To save settings, press Alt-F2 and run the command:
gksu nvidia-settings
Presumably the install needs to change so that nvidia-settings is run
with appropriate permissions.

This is a GTK bug, and should have a priority considerably higher than
the present "low". (I do not know who can change priority, or where/how
GTK bugs should be tracked.)
The GTK folk released an iteration of a shared library. The iteration
was advertised as backwards compatible, but contained a
@reini - be careful before you count "everyone else". For me, the
environment variable hack made buttons work, but added occasional
crashes in libpango (reported elsewhere). You can work around the flaky
buttons with the keyboard (tedious). But you cannot work around Eclipse
crashing and losing wor
Strictly speaking, this is a bug in GTK. A new version of GTK shipped
that was meant to be compatible, but instead broke existing applications
(at the very least those based on Eclipse). The application use of GTK
might (or might not) be considered in some way improper, but practical
considerations

Seems the work-around of setting the GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS environment
variable is a bit uncertain. In my case, now I am getting a hard fault
in the GTK library (not really an improvement).
This really needs to get fixed in GTK.
