Just updated my Dell Vostro 200's BIOS from 1.0.11 to 1.0.13 and the
same "ATA1.00 revalidation failed (errno=-5)" still happens while
launching 8.04 RC1 20080417 LiveCD.
The BIOS is in IDE mode. Before I updated the BIOS I did try
"generic.all_generic.ide=1" but it was still failing to boot the C
I am in the same hardware situation as "axel" except I also have a
working 7.10 setup in IDE mode with very important data on the 2nd drive
(a Perforce depot). I am not sure but won't the RAID mode wipe the 2nd
HDD with a mirror of the 1st?

7.10 works fine in IDE mode on the same machine that 8.04 chokes on
(Dell Vostro 200), so isn't that considered a bug, no matter if there
exists a workaround? Isn't the idea behind Ubuntu that it should work
out of the box?
