I have on my (old) PC two cdrom (scsi) drives. Both still working OK on Karmic.
However, after booting Lucid I face the following problem:
- One of the drives (the read-only one) is still working fine
but ...
- The tray of other drive (a Plextor read/write) gets blocked once

Today, 6/4/16. Upon ubuntu's notice of Linux Kernel 4.4.0-17
availability, I proceeded immediately to upgrade xenial. On restarting
the computer the built-in sound device went anew mute. I do not know
enough about the workings of alsa to give good advice,
Comment by the author of the bug report:
Built-in speaker never had problems with ubuntu 14.04.
Anyway, here is xenial's output for hdajacksensetest -a

Pin 0x10 ( Line Out): present = No

Comment by the author of the bug report:
Plugging or unplugging the headphone does not change anything in the
output of command hdajacksensetest -a. Neither there is any sound on the
headphone nor on the built-in loudspeaker.

But there was no sound at all.

Comment by the author of the bug report:
Taking cue from Raymond's comments I managed to get sound from the
Realtek circuits. I used "sudo hdajackretask" to change the pins'
assignments. The whole procedure is easy though a bit elaborate, but I
do not know how to write a permanent programmatic fix

My Realtek Ethernet controller RTL-8029 stopped working after my XUbuntu
upgrade from 11.04 to 12.04. Command "lpsci -v" shows that the kernel
driver being used is ne2k-pci. In my opinion this driver is not properly
managing the RTL-8029. This is a sort of regression because t

Dear Joseph.
The problem in the subject has disappeared.
I regret I could not do the test that you suggested. Though I am a long
date user of Ubuntu (and by no means a naive one) I do not have enough
skills nor the means to perform the upstream kernel tests that you
requested.
Anyhow, I just upg
