I have the same problem with linux-image-4.13.0-38 on xenial and
i7-3520M. It's unbootable right now. The only workaround is noibpb as
boot parameter.

Same here. Tried an older nvidia driver (435) but it didn't help.
Affects the desktop and gdm.
Temporary workaround for the desktop: add an autostart command to set
the scaling to a slightly different value and back to the original
value:
dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/interface/text-scaling-fact

I see the same segfault. But it only happens in Wayland. Evolution in
Xorg does not crash.
