Same laptop here. The problem is about the resolution. I've resolved it
changing in /etc/X11/xorg.conf the modes in the display subseccion of
the screen section. Change it from '1680x1050' to '1024x768' and restart
x (ctrl+alt+backspace) and works.
I've tried this workaround in Ubuntu and Kubuntu,
I don't see much activity here yet. Is there any solution that i have
miss? Has anybody all the information he needs yet?

Same problem here on a dell e5410 i5 with intel graphics. I'm on Ubuntu
1.10 with kernel 2.6.35-22-generic and i got black screen after
installing with alternate. I don't have a docking so i cannot try. I've
tried xforcevesa and i915.modeset=0 as kernel parameters in grub with no
luck. This way it
In my e5410 i'm with proposal updates. As i said before most of the
times i got a blank screen, but sometimes i've got gdm. I don't know
what triggers the screen to go on or blank.
