I got the exact same problem, It only happens on gnome. As xfce, and kde
are both fine. I have the same headsets as tipsqual. This is the only
thing preventing me from using ubuntu.

I have had this same problem since fiesty (when I started using ubuntu).
I have a 2.0 powered usb hub and a plantronics dsp-500 headsets. I have
tried it with a 1.1 usb hub and it does work fine. Not really knowing
the problem relied in the kernel, i have tried every distro ubuntu has
to offer and
