Nothing different, just a standard install from a usb stick and updates and
upgrades from apt.
I have a couple of flatpack apps and of course some snaps, but that shouldn't
matter.
Now going back to my original post, this exact same thing has now happened on 2
different servers.

This bug has now affected (infected?) my third server which is running 22.04.4.
I reported it in Bug #2078489 but it was marked as a duplicate of this report.

This bug just hit my third server, this one running 22.04.
I have installed 24.04.1 on the first and second servers that had been running
24.04 when this bug hit.
Both of those servers are running fine as of now and both have the
'3.12.3-0ubuntu2' version of python3.12 installed.

@ Andreas Hasenack (ahasenack)
I have tried many things in an attempt to fix this so I think that the
output from the commands you suggest would necessarily include any
further damage that I have caused in trying to fix the problem.
At this point I am just going to install a fresh copy of 24.04.1
I do have $errors set on all three of my servers as a destination
directory for backup errors.
