I just tried it by
System --->administration--->network
When I enter my password and click on ``Authenticate'' it tells me that an

That did it. It turns out I had more than ten old kernel files taking up
space.

Upon starting, the computer (a Dell desktop which has been through
several upgrades) stops booting, two lines after loading the crash
kernel. The screen goes dark and then the monitor into power save mode.
The only way to complete the boot is by doing it through the recovery
The bug, if it is that, is that the new nvidia drivers are not
compatible with the X server.
