I found the reason of this bug. When I try to load a file, there are a
button to load the file that say "all the files"; this is the
responsible of the problem. If I change this for "text documents" I can
load the file without problem.

I can confirm the bug on my Lucid installation on my Sony Vaio Z21MN
with the Intel graphics card (more details below). The workaround

Solved this. The motherboard has a setting preventing the boot record
being overwritten and this was on. When I turned it off and re-
installed, the installation completed and re-booted as it should. The
BIOS is supposed to show a warning saying what was happening, but
didn't.

I managed to format my system drive to NTFS by accident, the UI did
nothing to prevent it or even warn me.
Last week I was formatting a thumb drive to NTFS. I forgot to select it
and my system NVME was selected. I noticed it after I created the NTFS
partition

I have the same problem after the a suspend resume.
MY WORKAROUND:
Create a keyboard shortcut (I have it assigned to Ctrl-F12) with the
following command:
sh -c 'gconftool-2 --type float --set
/apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/panel_opacity 1; sleep
1; gconftool-2 --type float -
The same for me on a Sony Vaio Z21MN. It worked well with Lucid.

Issue with touchpad.
I have just been upgraded by Software Updater into ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
I find that the touchpad has just stopped working. Its pushbuttons have also
stopped working. Now, the mouse pointer can be used only with the little
joystick in the center of

A couple of restarts later and everything is back to normal.

Touchpa
I have upgraded two pc, from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10(one 32 bit, the other 64bit).
In nautilus i cannot enlarge the column of the "file name" because i cannot
shrink the others.
So if Ihave a long path the list of the name of the files that appears can be
like this:

I too have the same very annoying issue in two PCs that i have upgaded to
ubuntu 13.10. The file manager is absolutely unusable.
I have attached s screenshot. so everybody can see how much this bug is
relevant.

I downloaded the source for 1.3.10, built it using the instructions in
the documentation section under linux/unix installation, installed the
xutils-dev, libx11-dev and was able to build Xvnc which I copied into
/usr/bin/Xtightvnc. This seemed to provide a more reliable experience.
