I've found a workaround for ubuntu 18.04:
1) I downloaded the source code of the package from the original
developers (making sure it was the same version the ubuntu .deb package
is):
$ wget
https://confluence.ecmwf.int/download/attachments/8650755/ecFlow-4.8.0-Source.tar.gz?api=v2
-O ecFlow-4.
As for comment #3, the package you are referring to seems to include
what is missing in my ubuntu .deb package. However, my ubuntu version is
18.04, which has ecflow version 4.8.0 and not 4.12.0 as you linked

This problem occurred a couple of times befor this bug report; I always tried
to send the bug report as this option was offered, but the automatic bug report
procedure failed too. Should a check be made also to the bug report procedures?
Thanks for the great job that you do!
Dear all,

Dear Javier, thank you for the tests on this bug.
I will post hereafter a "short and quick" way to reproduce the bug, and
a more detailed one. First of all, in both cases, it is necessary to get
the input example data file to process. This is here:

Dear all, dear Javier,
just thank you for the great work that is soon going to be complete!
Recently I did not have much time to follow the evolution of the issue I
raised, and I am really glad to see that your effort went on the same to fix
this issue, on a not so common software.
All the best
Dear Javier,
thanks for continuing in giving me attention about this problem.
I made some tests and I succesfully made cdo work in the following
versions:

Dear Javier,
I wanted to write some message to let you know that Iam still active on this.
I just had some problems in configuring some laboratory environment where I can
work without harming my real computer. I needed to set up a virtual machine to
experiment. However, I had problems with the in
Dear Javier,
the cdo package in your ppa works as expected for Ubuntu 12.04. It writes good
grib1, grib2 and NetCDF files.
Now I will test it also on 12.10. I'll try also to test it on 13.04, however I
really struggled without coming to a success to install the system itself, so I

To the maintainers of the cdo package in ubuntu.
Dear ubuntu cdo package maintainers, I already posted "question" about this
same issue I'm reporting here, but it expired, so I'm posting again this same
issue in here, hoping to have some response or at least some directions
