Be sure gobuntu-artwork-usplash is installed and check alternatives:
update-alternatives --display usplash-artwork.so
Edit the file /etc/usplash.conf and change resolution to 800x600.
Update initramfs:
sudo update-initramfs -

I'm using gutsy tribe 5 an get this mensage in /var/log/syslog:
Sep 3 22:55:59 localhost gdm[5493]: WARNING: Server name '0' not found;
using standard server
I didn't change any config file.
When I try to use xdmp in gdm login screen, i get this:

I have the same problem. Reading

I try commenting out the line
export SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING
in /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice fixes the problem for me.
and solves the problem.
But the problem is still with sfs...
