then it was able to finish upgrade. then rebooted.

it was through the update-manager, I was able to fix it by running sudo
sudo dpkg --configure -a
for some reason the upgrades locked up my computer and I had to do a
hard reboot. I was not able to reproduce it.

Looks like after "sudo dpkg --configure -a" has fixed the problem on my
computer, had an issue with updating the hplip user. I have rebooted
twice now and can also print.
