My screen (sometimes) looks like this, when i boot with verbose usplash.
I still got this with the current kernel.
Sometimes my system boots without any usplash at all, when i boot without quiet.

i have the same problem on asus f3sv. and kernel 2.6.27-7. pc beeps during
boot, pink and green colors instead of usplash.
the correct usplash appears 1 in 10 boots. sometimes it only shows a verbose
console boot.
my configuration is "splash" without quiet.

I can confirm this. The splash screen is not showing up in verbose mode, but
the console.
Funny thing is, at shutdown, it does...
Before the yesterdays update, i had pc beeps and moving green and pink lines
instead of the usplash. lovely.
The resolution in the /etc/usplash.conf fits.

i get the same error when trying to mount a mac hfs disc image.

this only occurs if the startup sound is too long.
after trying to play this sound in the gnome-sound-properties, the other sounds
are not playable anymore.
the startup sound is not played after login, because its too long (13 secounds).
this was possible in gutsy. please fix this :(

I also have this problem on Lucid 64bit. Sound works, but the panel does not.
alsamixer seems to work too.
There also is no icon for the volume control in Indicator Applet.
