The live version of amd64 cd doesn't boot on this Turion 64 laptop.
Noapic and nolapic options don't have any visible effect. The kernel

Would it be possible to show a dialog (if running in vmware) that would
ask whether the user wants to disable framebuffer for performance
reasons?

I just tested the i386 live cd and it works as is without any tweaking
or extra parametres. So this is amd64 specific.

I have a bluetooth usb dongle which has worked under Linux before. It
works with Windows too.
When I insert it, kernel apparently recognises it as dmesg lists the
device. Even lsusb displays it. But when I run hcitool scan it reports
"Device
sudo hciconfig hci0 up
seems to help but this wasn't documented anywhere. Currently it finds my
phone but hcitool auth xxx times out.
