Same problem for me as well. I am running Gutsy on a Z61m Thinkpad.
Adjusting the brightness using the brightness-applet does not work
anymore, although I don't have the red circle in the applet. In Edgy or
Feisty this worked fine..
However, now I can use the FN Keys to set the brightness :) This
I just found out that the applet button works again, when setting the
dim property in the battery-mode to 0 % in the power-managment settings
:)
