Also affected by this bug, also using IBM X40. Rather annoying. Also,
after sleep, brightness goes totally down and Fn+Home/End has no effect.

I have a thinkpad x40 and i have not found a solution. just been
living with it :/

oh cool! but i'm a bit confused about what steps to take:

never experiencing the issue with suspend? or

seems Alessandro Arrichiello is correct and now i've got things working
with compiz. the trick seems to be you have to settle for lowering the
resolution so that neither width nor height sums to < 2048.
