Only a little progress with hotkeys, not with backlight.
I have a VGN-FZ11Z, after the last kernel upgrade (2.6.24-21-generic i686) it
finally recognizes the brightness keys correctly. Not only acpi_listen gives
responses when the key are pressed, but also kde open a little pop-up referring

Really a great news!!!
I've just installed the hacked version of nvclock and after "nvclock -S 50" the
brightness in now set to 50%!
Unfortunately it worked just one time, if I try to change again the brightness
it gives to me:
Error!
Smartdimmer is only supported on certain laptops using a Gefo
I think that my error would be related to the use of "nvclock -S 50".
But, where have I to write the value?
Thank you.

Excuse me too, I hadn't see the file.
Now it works, on a FZ11Z with 8400M GT.
After more than one year I finally could manage the brightness!
Great job, really.

I used the patch provided by nielsslot that allows to use a percentage
instead of a numeric value and I also changed "sony-brightness-down" and
"sony-brightness-up" and now when I adjust brightness via fn keys my

Vaio and brightness control is unfortunately and old story...
With FZ series "sudo nvclock -S -20" works, and I think it should work also
with the SZ series.
If it works, you can try to link the nvclock command with FN keys according to
the information that you will find in this old bug report:

I tried Ivan's mcNisse' patch on karmic with KDE SC 4.4 RC1 and it
partly worked: I could see the configuration window, but I could not
enter printers properties. To see and change them I have to comment out
also line 204 in options.py ("raise NotImplemented"). Now it works!

As far as the previous message is concerned: the patch I've tried is
mcNisse's one. I've also tried Ivan's one, but it worked only at the
first attempt to enter printer settings: going back to system settings
and again to printers' ones opened the error window.

I think that the problem is related to acetoneiso localisation.
"LANG=en acetoneiso" works too (obviously the menu is in English), while
other languages (LANG=it or LANG=fr) give an UI without any text.

A temporary workaround consist in removing libreoffice-kde and installing both
libreoffice-gtk and oxygen-gtk style.
The graphical effect is closer to the one provided by libreoffice-kde and
zotero is now working.
