I fixed this behaviour by adding the following lines in the Device
section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Radeon"
Driver "ati"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
Option "AccelDFS" "true"
Option "EnablePageFlip" "true"
Option "EnableDepth
I can confirm the same problem in almost identical setup as the original bug
report from Cristoph.
Same symptoms, same hardware, ThinkPad T42.
Thunderbird *very* sluggish after Xubuntu 9.04 -> 9.10 upgrade.
